Introducing Our FEM World Model
Our Free Energy Minimizing (FEM) world model was launched in drones to demonstrate the emergent autonomy of this novel AI architecture. The model controls the drone behaviours and enables flexible mission planning with human machine teaming. The agent (our drone) can describe its reasoning and decision-making and was put to the test with three distinct real-world missions.
Free Energy is an information quantity describing the difference between a model’s current and future predictions and its current sensory input. The actions emitted by a hierarchical world model allow ‘priors’ on what the agent wants to achieve to inform several layers of reasoning and planning.
By minimising Free Energy the AI optimally combines searching for information to do its task with the task performance itself.
